Learning Objectives:

  • Benefits of Compost
  • Compost Ingredients
  • Compost Dos and Don’ts
  • Approaches to Composting
  • How to use compost

Speaker: Master Gardener Jackie Rich

Jackie Rich has been a Maricopa County Cooperative Extension Service Master Gardener since 2001 and was composting even before that. She has been educating about compost for 15 years and is still learning. Her adventures in compost began because she wanted to feel less guilty about killing plants. She currently has 9 compost bins of various types, a worm bin, and several in-situ composts. In addition to composting her yard and kitchen waste, she takes yard waste from her neighbors and kitchen waste from 10 other households and has a goal of composting a ton of food waste in a year.

The DIG Classes are returning to in-person classes on location at the Maricopa County Cooperative Extension Office at 4341 E Broadway Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85040, along with keeping many of our online classes. Walk-ins are welcome, but space at the Extension Office is limited so early registration is recommended.
