Whether you are a house plant hoarder or beginning to venture into the world of indoor plants, we find that each new plant is an adventure in learning. Plants not only serve to center our soul they have practical purposes in our lives. With literally thousands of different varieties to choose from there are some very basic needs and methods to help us to have healthy vibrant plants. In this class we will discuss research based ways to care for our house plants and the issues we face.
Learning Objectives:
- Plants are talking to us. Learn the keys to their care.
- Taking the plunge into soil and potting amendments and what they do for our plants.
- Grow lights and how they affect your plants.
- How to deal with high alkaline in our water.
- Fertilizers, reading their labels, how they help or harm.
BRING HOME A NEW FRIEND
Attendees of this class will have the opportunity to take home new cuttings from some common house plants that you can continue to propagate at home. Please bring a small carboard box or plastic bag to help bring your new houseplant home.
Speaker: Master Gardener Mary Crenshaw
Mary Crenshaw is a Certified Master Gardner, Certified Master Naturalist, Member of the CACCS Education Committee and Arizona’s newest Xerces Society Ambassador. She has resided in Maricopa County since moving here in 1988. She retired from Arizona State University where she worked in Business Administration and Finance. She has been an avid gardener for over 40 years and has spent many happy hours researching information, experimenting, and implementing various methods in her garden. Some of these techniques include conserving water by irrigating with ollas, plant propagation, growing succulents, supporting our pollinators, and raised bed and container gardens.
The DIG Classes are returning to in-person classes on location at the Maricopa County Cooperative Extension Office at 4341 E Broadway Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85040, along with keeping many of our online classes. Walk-ins are welcome, but space at the Extension Office is limited so early registration is recommended.
