About this Event

About Diffbot

Diffbot's aim is to build the most accurate and comprehensive map of human knowledge. The Diffbot Knowledge graph is the world’s largest database of structured data, autonomously built by extracting data across the whole web. This technically very ambitious goal consists of many steps: crawling the web, using machine learning to identify relevant information on web pages, natural language processing to extract from its text, record and entity linking, to name a few.

About Mike Tung

Mike Tung is the founder and CEO of Diffbot. He is also an adviser at the Stanford StartX accelerator and the leader of Stanford’s entry in the DARPA Robotics Challenge.

Prior to Diffbot, Mike was a patent lawyer, a grad student in the Stanford AI lab, and a software engineer at eBay, Yahoo!, and Microsoft. Mike studied Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at UC Berkeley and Artificial Intelligence at Stanford.

Hackathon:

This hackathon allows participants to leverage the Diffbot Knowledge Graph for many data science use cases and tap into its vast collections of people, organization, product, and article data. The projects can be to enrich existing data, automate gathering new data, build custom collections or building capabilities on top of the KG.

More about the projects:

Projects can be anything that are using the Diffbot KG - recommendation systems, UIs, data analysis tools, data reporting tools, chatbots, text analysis tools or any computer vision tools on top of the Diffbot’s APIs. Some Diffbot APIs -

  • Extraction APIs - Diffbot offers several APIs for AI-based extraction of webpages. Diffbot uses computer vision and natural language processing techniques in order to automatically categorize pages into types (article, product, discussion, nav page) and automatically extract their contents into structured entities, which are returned as JSON.
  • Knowledge Graph APIs - The Knowledge Graph (KG) lets you search through over 10 billion entities (people, companies, products, articles, and discussions), discover the relationships between them, and analyze 1 trillion+ facts.
  • Natural language APIs - The Natural Language API allows developers to extract entities (e.g., people, organizations, products) and data about them (e.g., sentiment, relationships) from text.
