We are THRILLED to announce that we will host Dr. John Demassa as our Sunday Evening Keynote Speaker on Sunday, March 1st at 6pm (after the Science Parade). Dr. John Demassa is an Organic Chemist specializing in polymers. He’s working with a team of scientists to discover HOW the dinosaurs discovered by Dr. Mary Schweitzer and her team in 2000 were “gooey.” His team has been working to de-mineralize dinosaur bones discovered in other areas to determine if they are also gooey; If their collagen, lipids, and capillaries are still viable and un-fossilized. 😳

These are really interesting, intense, and relevant topics. Most people are unaware of Dr. Mary Schweitzer’s discoveries even though they are over 20 years old!! 😳 Given Dr. John Demassa’s organic chemistry background, he is excited to extrapolate his data and recent findings to offer insight into whether dinosaurs tasted like chicken!
Dr. Demassa has a lovely conversation style when presenting. It’s like talking to your nerdy Grandpa. 🤓 ❤️

This is a FREE event. Space is limited. Arrive early to ensure your seat.
A distraction area will be offered for kids who are younger or need to move around a bit. Parental supervision is still required.
There is a T-Shirt Contest before Dr. Demassa’s presentation.
T-shirts will be judged on five criteria by audience applause:
1. Theme - tonight’s theme is: Dinosaurs
2. Legibility- It can be The Best t-shirt, but if the audience can’t read it, then it won’t win.
3. Humor - Facts presented in a humorous way are more memorable.
4. Factual- because we value Truth in Science.
5. Originality - Did YOU make the shirt? Is it YOUR idea? Tell us!
There is an Evening Experiment after the presentation.
Dr. Demassa and our own fossil expert, Joe Cooper of Sticks & Stones, are working together to develop an Experiment specifically for the NE GA Science Symposium! ❤️ 🤓
