Dick Lowenthal and his band will perform many hits from the Swing Era through the 1980's. Consisting of outstanding jazz musicians from South Florida, they will recreate music from the libraries of Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller , Woody Herman, Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, Buddy Rich and others. The arrangements are exactly as they were originally performed and recorded.
PERFORMER BIOS:
DICK LOWENTHAL, CONDUCTOR
Professor emeritus Richard Lowenthal recently retired after teaching and conducting Jazz for over 50 years. He founded and chaired the Jazz Program at the Manhattan School of Music and conducted the award-winning Jazz orchestra. He also started the Jazz Program at New Jersey City University. Dick served as the Chair of the Board at The Arts Garage for the past two years and founded the successful adult education courses called "Jazz and Java," where he has taught for seven years. As a trumpeter he has performed with Wynton Marsalis, Clark Terry, Nancy Wilson, Ella Fitzgerald and Cher, among others. For 10 years he led the Special Unit of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, performing at the Tony Awards, Presidential functions. and several concert tours throughout Europe and Japan.
