About this Event
Diaspora Dreamers Book Club: Black Sci-Fi & Fantasy is a community-centered reading experience dedicated to exploring speculative fiction by Black authors and stories that place Black characters, cultures, and futures at the center.
Each gathering invites readers to dive into science fiction, fantasy, Afrofuturism, and speculative storytelling that challenges reality, reimagines history, and expands what’s possible. Together, we’ll discuss themes of identity, power, survival, ancestry, technology, magic, and liberation—while building meaningful conversation and connection.
This book club is for:
- Readers curious about Black sci-fi, fantasy, and speculative fiction
- Lovers of deep conversation and imaginative storytelling
- Folks looking for community, reflection, and joy through reading
- Both seasoned readers and those just getting started—no expertise required
What to expect:
- Guided but open discussion (no pressure, all voices welcome)
- Thought-provoking questions and shared reflections
- A relaxed, inclusive atmosphere
- Space to connect with fellow readers and thinkers
📖 You don’t need to be an expert—just bring curiosity, openness, and a love (or growing love) for stories that imagine beyond this world.
Whether we’re reading about distant planets, magical kingdoms, or reimagined futures rooted in the African diaspora, Diaspora Dreamers Book Club is where Black imagination gathers.
