Mrs. Melba Braud was initiated into the Beta Phi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated®️ 75 years ago on the campus of Xavier University of Louisiana. She has devoted 75 years of trailblazing work to the sorority and has achieved a long list of career and community accolades. She is one of 13 charter members of our Eta Chi Omega chapter chartered in 1963, assisted with the chartering of our undergraduate chapter, Epsilon Beta, the first Black sorority on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (ULL) in 1967, and was the first African-American assistant professor at SLI (Southwestern Louisiana Institute) currently known as ULL. We are beyond grateful to Mrs. Braud for her life-long leadership, commitment, service, and compassion to her community and our beloved sorority.
