About this Event
Training Diabetic Alert Dogs provides a level of fulfillment that is hard to match compared to anything else I've ever done in my career. I look forward to the day that medical and technological advances replace any need for me as a diabetic alert dog trainer. However, until there's a cure... there's a dog.
This workshop covers all the foundation skills you will need to know to get a dog started correctly on the path to becoming a diabetic alert dog. It is not a complete comprehensive course from start to finish, but more advanced learning will be available to you after completion of this course.
All attendees must be professional dog trainers, this workshop is not suitable for novice dog handlers.
What's included:
- A training guide/folder with information covering the topics of the weekend.
- Lunch and dinner are included both days.
- Two live viewings of our group classes. These classes are group obedience classes and are a combination of our pet dog clients as well as our diabetic alert dog clients.
- LOTS of hands on practice. Yes there will be some theoretical lecture, but primarily I'm a big believer in trainers seeing how this is done and having the opportunity to do it themselves. If you do not bring a dog there will be several dogs available to practice with at the workshop.
- All the information about how I market my Diabetic Alert Dog programs, and how I price them.
Working Spot VS Audit Spot: Attendees are encouraged to bring a dog, but it is not a requirement by any means. It could be a personal dog or a client dog.
If you choose to bring a puppy it should be a very confident and outgoing puppy with excellent food drive. If you choose to bring an adoloscent or adult dog the dog should have some basic foundation obedience and high food drive for you to get the most out of the workshop. Even though this event is not going to focus on training the dogs in attendance we firmly believe that this type of subject is best taught with a hands on approach so the dog that you bring will be used for demonstration purposes during some of the training exercises. All attendees will be considered working spots whether you bring a dog or not, as everyone will get a chance for hands on practice with dogs that I supply for the workshop. Dogs will be crated when not being worked with so should have decent crate manners. ***Bring your own crate*** We may have a few extra crates to loan but this will be on a first come first serve basis and you just need to reach out to us to ask.
And even though the workshop gets over Saturday afternoon, don't be in a hurry to leave. We'll be having a dinner out at the Top Dog Texas Ranch Saturday night that you won't wanna miss. We'll be sitting around the fire swapping dog stories with some other great North Texas Trainers.
REFUND POLICY: I understand that things happen, however I only offer a limited number of spots for these workshops. As such, refunds are available only up to thirty days from the workshop start date. There will not be any refunds, exchanges, or transfers within 30 days of the workshop.
Accommodations: We are very fortunate to be just down the road from a cluster of hotels (some dog friendly some not). If you are interested in sharing a room with another participant please let us know and we’ll put out an email to see if anyone else is interested.
