Northern Maine Medical Center’s Diabetes Education Program is a comprehensive outpatient diabetes education program in compliance with the Maine CDC Diabetes Prevention and Control Program accredited by the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists. Our goal is to provide quality, comprehensive diabetes self – management education and support necessary to empower the person with diabetes to better manage his or her disease.Our diabetes program is referral based. Our team consists of RN Diabetes Care & Education Specialists and registered Dietician. Combination of outpatient group and individual educational sessions along with medical nutrition therapy prove to help improve overall health and successful management of diabetes. Managing diabetes includes the following 7 self-care behaviors: healthy eating, being active, monitoring, taking medications, problem solving, reducing risks and healthy coping. We see patients from all age groups with Type 1, Type 2, Pre–Diabetes and Gestational Diabetes.
