Día de los Muertos, celebrated on November 1, is a sacred day dedicated to honoring our deceased loved ones and celebrating their cherished memories. In this workshop, you will explore the rich history of sugar skull making and the creation of altars, uncovering their deep significance. Join us in embracing the vibrant tradition of Día de los Muertos by decorating your own sugar skull!
This activity is designed for participants ages 12 and up, inviting everyone to engage in a meaningful project that pays tribute to their loved ones. Sugar skulls, or calaveras de azúcar, are powerful symbols of life's sweetness and its enduring continuity. If cared for properly, these skulls can last for years. All decorating materials will be provided, including royal icing, edible decorations, various dried flowers, sequins, and more. Additionally, there will be coffee, pastries, and Mexican-themed drinks available for a donation.
This event takes place in a beautiful, private, hilly space with stairs on the east side of Los Angeles. Please consider your comfort and ability to walk up stairs before joining us. Once registered you will recieve an address to the location a few days before the event.
