Dewey Decibels: Music in the Library

A night of new & eclectic music at Exeter Library, co-produced with Obvious Events. Featuring an explosive set from voice-and-percussion ensemble Tryani, plus "tender and enchanting" Jonah Corren & emerging local songwriter Sam Jones.
Tryani Collective is a Bristol-based ensemble of six vocalist-instrumentalists blending multi-part harmonies with powerful percussion, synths, and drums. Inspired by Henry Purcell, Cocanha, and San Salvador, they use original lyrics as rhythmic motifs, distorting words and voices into a hypnotic, polyphonic sound. Whether at festivals or intimate acoustic shows, their dynamic energy captivates. Featuring members of Spindle Ensemble and Solana, they’ve performed at Shambala Festival, Fire in the Mountain, and The Jam Jar Bristol, supporting Bab L’ Bluz.
Jonah Corren is a songwriter-poet from West Dorset. His debut EP, Dreaming and Petty Crime, explores his rural upbringing, touching on nostalgia, urbanization, and teenage boredom. An alum of BBC New Creatives, his spoken word and music piece Borderlines was produced with Bristol artist Dizraeli. His poetry has been published by The Poetry Society and featured in anthologies from Nine Arches Press and Arachne Press.
His latest single, Langdon, shifts toward guitar-driven songwriting and introspective lyricism, earning comparisons to David Kitt and Stornoway.
"Corren’s vocal performance is both poignant and playful" – Americana UK
Sam Jones is a signer-songwriter from Exeter. Having spent years performing cover music around the South West, he is now ready to start sharing his own original music. With a debut EP on it’s way, now's a great time to come along and discover the deeply personal music that Sam has been working on.
Obvious Events is a youth-run promotions company dedicated to supporting young artists. Music is a vital part of our community, and we strive to give young people opportunities to share their diverse talents.
Tickets: £7.00 / £5.00 for self-selecting concessions. A bar with soft drinks and alcohol will be available. Doors at 6.30pm. Please note, the music will kick off out 7pm sharp.
