Join us on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, for a talk by Professor Mounir Kchaou on Development, developmentalism, and the flaws of the social-democratic narrative. In this lecture, Professor Kchaou challenges the widespread view that Tunisia’s economic decline stems mainly from the Structural Adjustment Program of the 1980s and subsequent international agreements. He argues that Tunisia never fully possessed economic sovereignty, and that these reforms must be seen within the broader global shift from postwar social democracy to neoliberalism. In sum, the talk invites us to rethink the relationship between economic reform, democracy, and social justice in Tunisia and beyond.
