DEVELOPING CREATIVITY WITHIN THE CURRICULUMDescription
In this workshop we will consider what creativity is, what forms it can take and what elements of creativity we consider of value in the world today. We will consider what role creativity plays in the classrooms and discuss how formal education might be thought to negatively impact creativity.
It will be suggested that there are core creativity skills, which we can incorporate in our classes. Through a series of practical and hand-on examples and tasks, we’ll explore if and how creativity can be taught. We will go on to discuss what our role as teachers is in relation to this and how we can foster, facilitate and expand creative potential in our classes, whilst staying within the boundaries of our curriculum.
By looking at authentic classroom materials and example resources for reading and writing we will focus on a possible framework that can be applied to other materials. An integrated approach with core creativity skills at the heart of practical tasks and activities will allow us to consider and apply the ideas from this workshop in our every day teaching.
