About this Event
Detroit Book City is ecstatic to host it’s Juneteenth Book Fair 2024 celebrating freedom through literature on Sat. June 22, 2024 from 12 Noon - 5pm. This is an outside FREE tent event held at Historic People's Community Church 8601 Woodward Ave. Detroit 48202 (at Pingree St.) The first 100 adult door arrivals get a free SWAG bag! This is a family-friendly event, all ages welcome.
Also known as Freedom Day, Juneteenth marks the moment in United States’ history—June 19, 1865—when the remaining 250,000 enslaved African Americans in Confederate states were legally declared free two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. In the century-and-a half since, the Juneteenth holiday represents a time to gather with family and community, honor the present and reflect on shared history and tradition.
Get ready to meet a fierce group of talented independent authors of adult & children books from across all genres! Fill your bookshelves up with incredible stories and knowledge written by local and national authors. We encourage you to share them across generations to come.
