Detroit Book City is ecstatic to host its 6th Annual Juneteenth Books, Music and Arts Fair 2025 celebrating ‘freedom thru the arts’ on Sat. June 21, 2025 from 12 Noon - 5pm at The Commons –MACC Development 7900 Mack Ave. Detroit, MI 48214.
Every adult attendee get a FREE copy of DBC’s June/July 2025 Special Issue “FREEDOM JOURNAL” Newspaper/Catalog. This is a family-friendly event, all ages welcome.
Also known as Freedom Day, marks the moment in United States’ history—June 19, 1865—when the remaining 250,000 enslaved African Americans in Confederate states were legally declared free two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. In the century-and-a half since, the Juneteenth holiday represents a time to gather with family and community, honor the present and reflect on shared history and tradition.
Spectators…get ready to shop over 40 exhibitors — a fierce group of talented ‘neighborhood’ indie book authors and artisans i.e. books, paintings, drawings, ceramics, croquet knits, apparel, candles, soaps, beauty goods, jewelry, tasty edibles and more!
LIVE Storytelling: Celebrated storytellers and spoken-word artists will share folktales from Africa and the African Diaspora that focus on Juneteenth ~ Intellectual Literacy = Freedom! Authors and attendees are invited to share their stories starting at 1:30pm.
LIVE Music & Youth Marching Band: At this year's Juneteenth event, enjoy old-school, nostalgic music by DJ Holly and an enchanting afternoon with Inkster's American International Academy - District Youth String Ensemble, Handchime Choir and Marching Band!
KIDZONE: Bring the kids for free Juneteenth storytelling, face-painting, bookmarks, silicone wristbands and FUN coloring activity. FREE ice cream!
Juneteenth Souvenirs: T-shirts, necklaces and books will be on sale.
Grab a bite to eat or drink at the neighborhood corner cafe ~ a cup of coffee, soda, tea, ice tea, lemonade, floats, milkshakes or smoothies ‘on-site’ from the neighborhood cafe. The Commons Cafe also serves affordable sandwiches, vegan delights, cookies, muffins, cinnamon rolls, breads, cake, fruit, chips, and ice cream.
This is a free, public event for Adults, Kids & Seniors 65+. Bring your family, church members, book club, youth group, school, neighbors, girlfriends, sport teams... EVERYONE IS INVITED!
With respect to post Covid-19 & variants, please be prepared to practice the latest CDC's guidelines to protect all. This event is held in the rear parking lot of the church and is handicap accessible.
