On October 5th, 2019, M.A.D. USA, Inc. will kick off Domestic Violence Awareness Month with the 8th Annual Detra Rainey: Stop the Violence "Save a Life" Domestic Violence Awareness Event at the Centre Pointe Sam’s Club near the Tanger Outlet. This event offers education and fun for the whole family while focusing on raising awareness about domestic violence, safe places of refuge, and counseling centers for anyone who may be affected. M.A.D. USA is committed to engaging people of all ages throughout South Carolina and beyond, advocating for those impacted by domestic violence, and providing education to help recognize abuse and break the cycle of violence. Our goal is to prevent domestic violence from occurring in the future. This event has been held for the past 8 years in remembrance of the executive director’s family members who were victims of domestic violence in 2006. On September 30, 2006, Christan Rainey's mother, Detra Rainey, and four siblings, William (16), Hakiem (13), Malachi (6), and Samenia (6), were tragically murdered by her husband during a domestic dispute. Christan’s story has illuminated the profound impact of domestic violence on our community, state, and country. We have chosen to honor his family not with sorrow, but by using their story as a stepping stone to help save lives.
