The Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) Instructor training prepares police officers and other qualified persons to teach the administration and interpretation of the results of the DWI Detection and SFST battery.

ATTENDEES MUST BE PROFICENT IN ADMINISTERING THE SFST BATTERY OF TESTS.  THE CLASS ATTENDEES MUST DEMONSTRATE THIS PROFICENCENCY TO COURSE INSTRUCTORS IN ORDER TO REMAIN IN THE CLASS.

Must have the Basic Instructor Develpment Course (BID) offered by CLEET. This course expands on the BID you already have.

Topics covered:

  • Concepts of adult learning
  • SFST Curriculum package
  • Techniques for effective classroom and courtroom presentation
  • Video options for SFST training
  • Teaching preparation techniques

There will be 2 written exams and 2 practical exams that students must pass to complete the course.

This course was developed by NHTSA and approved by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). National standards have been established by IACP to ensure consistency in the content, delivery, and application of this training program. The NHTSA/IACP basic course is the only curriculum that meets these standards.

 During the 40-hour training program, law enforcement officers learn how to instruct:

-          How to recognize behavior that points toward impaired driving;

-          The importance of the SFST battery, and how to properly administer the tests. This is reinforced through the use of two correlation workshops;

-          When to make an impaired driving arrest;

-          How to write accurate and detailed reports;

-          How to give clear and convincing testimony.

 

This is a CLEET accredited class that upon successful completion will earn the student 40 hours of continuing education Credit (5 - 8 hour days)
