About this Event
Join us at BlackRock Center for the Arts in the Kay Gallery on Feb 7, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM for a special debut performance titled “Destiny, Dreams, and Devotion” composed, performed, and produced by REGAL LIV—the performance alter of Nigerian-born transdisciplinary contemporary Artist and Cultural Producer, VILLAGER. Stay after the performance for a discussion with the artist. After VILLAGER's performance and talk-back, don't miss Sun Ra in our Mainstage at 8PM. The iconic Grammy-nominated group has been at the forefront of Afro-futurism since their inception in the 50s. (Tickets sold separately.
The three-part performance essay, Destiny, Dreams, and Devotion, unfolds as a verbivocovisual synergy of sound (percussion, voice, and archival audio recordings), spoken word, movement, olfaction, and visuals, which considers itself a celestial eulogy for an unborn child, people, or nation.
The multimedia performance is a meditation on the artist’s 2025 solo exhibition titled “Devotion, Dreams and Destiny which expanded the mythological and time-bending metaphysical text landscapes of The Famished Road by Ben Okri. The performance essay is written as a discursive network composed with inspirations from the Afro-imaginative rhythms of Sola Akingbola; Nora Chipaumire’s visceral and insurgent movement language; and Sun Ra & His Astro Infinity Arkestra's 1970 track, “Somebody Else’s world (a.k.a. Somebody Else's Idea)”; archival recordings of ancestral teachings by Malidoma Some and Sobunfe Some, alongside intimate field conversational recordings of the artists’ maternal grandparents.
Destiny, Dreams, and Devotion emerges as an Afrofuturist manifesto in which REGAL LIV invites imaginative speculation on the collective futures that await us when we dream with devotion—glimpsing, listening, and holding the whispers of our destiny. It is an activation of deep listening with every available sense, awakening us to the consciousness of ancestors whose presence emboldens us to future possibilities of time and space beyond the limits of our imagination.
