Designing Tomorrow: The SDG Blueprint for Built Environment Futures

The built environment is at the heart of Aotearoa’s response to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Every building, street, and system we create shapes not only how people live, but also how we face the defining challenges of our time — from climate change to sustainable growth.
The way we plan, design, and construct our cities influences how we live — and how we tackle challenges.

This event is part of SDG Action Month 2025, a global campaign highlighting how communities, institutions, and industries are accelerating progress toward the 2030 Agenda.

For Aotearoa, the conversation is urgent: how can planning, design, and construction shape a sustainable and climate-resilient future?

The evening will open with a keynote address offering global perspectives on sustainability and the role of the built environment in achieving the SDGs.
Two panels will then explore critical themes:
- Planning + Place + People — housing futures, cultural identity, leadership, and policy alignment.
- Materials + Methods + Innovation — construction technology, green standards, digital tools, and carbon-conscious practice.
Hosted in partnership between UNANZ Wellington and the Faculty of Architecture and Design Innovation at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.

Alongside the discussions, attendees can view a Student Showcase from the School of Architecture and the School of Design Innovation, and contribute to a Blueprint Wall by writing their own pledges on SDG Commitment Cards — ensuring the event concludes with collective action as well as ideas.
Join us as we map the blueprint for a built environment that ensures the built environment contributes to both local aspirations and global goals.
