Design Time: A-maze-ing Mazes – In-person workshop
Thursday 4th August 2022, 11am-4pm
For children aged 11-14
Humans have been building a-maze-ing mazes all over the world for thousands of years!
Whether of hedgerows, stone, mirrors, maize (or something else entirely) mazes and labyrinths have been made in different countries all over the world. But what's the difference between a maze and a labyrinth?
Why were they made in the first place? Are they always designed to confuse, or is there a more thoughtful reason to make tangly-pathways and hidden passages?
In this practical and creative architecture workshop we will explore the history, mythology and spirituality of mazes and labyrinths. We will contemplate the creative planning of mazes and labyrinths and work collaboratively to design and build a twisty wiggly pathway with a new tale, all of it's own.
This creative architecture workshop for children aged 11 to 14 will be run by artist educator Zoe Allen.
About the Workshop Series
Our Design Time (previously Design Day) workshops for ages 11-14 take architectural design a step further by providing context and knowledge of the built environment to spark creativity. Past workshops have focused on different architectural styles, small and large-scale construction methods, traditional and digital drawing techniques, architectural games and using software to design collaboratively in a shared space.
Based in London, mainly our HQ at 66 Portland Place, all participants must arrive by 11am. These workshops are led by professional educators and all materials are included in the ticket price, but lunch is not provided.
