Beginning Design Stamped Jewelry

Description: Learn to create a pair of simple stamped earrings or a pendant by selecting 1-3 design stamps to create a simple nonlinear design. Choose from an aluminum, brass or copper shape and Design or Initial stamps. The process of adding a small rhinestone will be demonstrated and may be applied to the design.
Skills: Learn to prepare a blank for Stamping, proper stamping methods with a metal block, hammer and stamp. Finish the piece with patina, hand polishing, and adding a surface rhinestone. Be shown how to add a jump ring or bale to the pendants or earring wires to the earrings.
Included Supplies: Earring or Pendant blanks, pendant bale, earring wire, tape, patina, polishing blocks, glue, jump ring
Classroom Tools: Metal Design Stamps, Rhinestone Bezel Stamps, Metal Block, Chain Nose Pliers

Hold Harmless: Students must agree to the terms of the Hold Harmless statement during the registration process. The statement requires the student to agree to Hold Harmless the instructor, the Art Center, its owner/directors, patrons, tenants, and its individual members from any liability or responsibility for any damage/injury or loss to said person during the time spent in the course. The use of jewelry tools may cause minor injury if not used with care. Safety is important to the Art Center and is practiced throughout all sponsored courses. Participants behaving in a manner that is not safe will be asked to leave the classroom.
Age Requirement: Most Jewelry and metalwork courses are designed for participants ages 14 years and older. Children 12-13 years old may register and attend with an adult. The adult must also be registered for the course. Children under age 12 may only be allowed in the classroom during jewelry courses that are specifically designed for children.
Process: All courses come with a design kit which includes the supplies needed to complete the project. Participants are provided the use of classroom tools necessary to create jewelry and metalwork pieces. For safety, all participants must wear safety glasses (provided or bring your own). Instruction is given in step-by-step process; please be sure you are on time for the class. (NOTE: Hammering and stamping on metal can create a loud environment that may bother sensitive ears. If the participant is sensitive to loud noise, ear plugs or headphones may be brought and used during the noisy portion of the class.)
Classroom Jewelry Tools Used in Courses May Include: base metalĀs, wire, beads, gems, findings, jewelry hammers, texturing hammers, jewelry plyers, metal stamps, forming tools, metal saw, drill, rivets and other cold connection, files, sanding and polishing tools, metal patinas and other miscellaneous tools.
