Imagine Kalamazoo 2035 is entering the Design It! phase—and this is where community ideas begin turning into real plans.
Design It! builds on the Strategic Vision shaped by thousands of residents during earlier phases of engagement. Now, the focus shifts from big-picture goals to how we make them happen. These neighborhood meetings will help move from the high-level Strategic Vision outcomes to the strategies and design ideas that will guide Kalamazoo’s Master Plan.
At Design It! meetings, residents will explore topics like housing, streets, parks, transportation, businesses, and neighborhood spaces and help shape how those priorities take form in their community. Your feedback will directly influence the strategies the City uses over the next decade.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Design It! meetings are open-house style and designed to be fun, fast-paced, and interactive. There is no formal presentation. Instead, residents can drop in anytime during the event to participate in hands-on activities, ask questions, and share ideas at their own pace.
City staff will be on hand to facilitate stations and listen directly to community perspectives. Whether you stay for 10 minutes or the full event, your input matters.
WHY PARTICIPATE?
This is a key moment in the Imagine Kalamazoo 2035 process. Design It! is where community voices help shape real, actionable strategies that affect daily life in Kalamazoo neighborhoods. Participating now helps ensure the Master Plan reflects local needs, ideas, and priorities.
Every Design It! meeting will include prizes and giveaways as a thank you for participating, including a raffle to win a rain barrel!
Design It! neighborhood meetings will be held in 15 locations across the city from mid-January through mid-March, with one to two meetings each week. Everyone is welcome to attend—whether you’ve been involved before or are joining for the first time.

The meeting will be held in the cafeteria. Use the main entrance, go down the main hall and take a right (just past the gym). Dinner will be provided!
