Holiday Oddities 4!

(The 2025 “Who needs a drink?” edition.)

Deserted Films returns to the intimate space of screen 2 at the Palm Springs Cultural Center for Holiday Oddities 4! (The 2025 “Who needs a drink?” edition.) And as the name suggests, this year’s presentation might pair well with a beverage. We won’t say it will drive you to drink. And it’s still a family-friendly show (define as you like…). But Melissa and Devin have hand-selected some stuff… holiday stuff… that is sure to delight and confuse.

Get a load of:

Weird Santa

Over-lit and squinty Christmas morning footage

Holiday parties

Feasts…and their aftermath

Toys, gifts, trees, decor…and their aftermath

Holiday theme park overload

Trippy animation

Songs that will not leave your brain

Highly flammable Hanukkah footage

Holiday fashions

Grumpy family portraits

Pale turkeys

And so much footage of other people drinking…

This year, help us put the spirits into holiday spirit!

Fresh, high quality digital scans of ephemeral film and video from the Deserted Films collections and borrowed from buddies at other archives. And it’s all held together with Melissa’s knife-edge, painstaking editing, Deserted Films’ unique live commentary, and  just the right amount of Scotch. Your mileage may vary.

Because now more than ever.

See you there!

DESERTED FILMS

Melissa Dollman and Devin Orgeron officially founded Deserted Films, a cultural memory archive and federally recognized 501(c)(3), in Palm Springs in 2022. They collect, care for and make accessible over 2,000 8mm, Super 8mm, and 16mm home movies, and more, created by locals and tourists to our area, that document Palm Springs, Coachella Valley, and Southern California more broadly. They have collector fever, so check out the 500+ digitized films and other ephemera on their website: https://desertedfilms.org/. They have presented educational — and entertaining, they hear! — programs to audiences in the Coachella Valley at such venues as: Palm Springs Cultural Center, Palm Springs Public Library, Modernism Week, Maleza, Salon for the Parched, Rotary of Indio, and other clubs.
