About this Event
Join us for a information evening with Andrew Harper OAM
2026 marks a milestone year for the Outback Camel Company - 50 years since Australia’s original desert camel-trekking enterprise first set out into the Simpson Desert.
Under the banner of Great Desert Walks, the Outback Camel Company and Australian Desert Expeditions invite you to an evening exploring a unique way of travelling through Australia’s great deserts - on foot, with camels, at the pace of the land itself.
Founded by outback tourism pioneer Rex Ellis, our journeys have always been guided by a simple philosophy: get out there and have a go. That same ethos continues today, with our annual treks now also supporting ecological and scientific survey work conducted by Australian Desert Expeditions.
At this information evening, we’ll share:
- The story of 50 years of camel trekking in the Australian desert
- What we mean by Desert Bushwalking - walking slowly, simply, and respectfully through Country
- How our treks work, who they’re for, and what it’s like to walk day after day with camels
- Upcoming journeys and opportunities to be part of future treks & expeditions
Walking with camels offers a timeless and transformative desert experience: a continuous, unbroken journey that connects you to the rhythm of the landscape and the remarkable personalities of the animals who walk beside you.
If you’re curious about the desert, drawn to walking journeys, or simply want to learn more, we’d love you to join us for the evening.
Free to attend, with limited seats. Reserve your spot today.
