Dinner
The evening will begin with a Mediterranean-style dinner (see FAQs below for menu) catered by Chef Roger Mortensen on the terrace of Dark Sky Campground, at the base of the Vermillion Cliffs. SVO will share exciting progress toward our goal of building an educational observatory in Kanab as well as our ongoing public outreach work and the wonderful relationships we have built since SVO's inception five years ago. Your attendance and support will help us achieve our goal of building an educational observatory in Kanab, enhancing our ability to educate and inspire future generations.

Milky Way Photography (Beginner to Intermediate Level)
After dinner, Kevin Dobo from Action Photo Tours and acclaimed photographer Dave Lane will lead a hands-on Milky Way photography workshop. Kevin and Dave will provide beginners the foundational knowledge they need to capture beautiful night sky images and help intermediate-level photographers reach the next level.
Recommended Gear:
The most important thing here is a camera of some sort and a way to hold it steady, such as a tripod. A DSLR/mirrorless camera with full manual control will give you the most flexibility, but a good smart phone can also be used.
- Camera or Smart Phone
- Tripod/Mount
- Wide Angle Lens (optional)
- Batteries (optional)
- Extra Memory Cards (optional)
If you are interested in learning but don't have a DSLR or mirrorless camera yet, you can still capture beautiful night sky images using photography principles covered during this workshop.

Stargazing
The night culminates with stargazing under the pristine southern Utah sky. Rich Csenge, President of SVO, along with members of the Stellar Vista night sky interpretation team, will guide us on a laser constellation tour and offer telescopic views of celestial wonders. With no Moon on the night of the 19th and a 21% waxing crescent on the 26th setting at 9:30pm, we expect very good conditions to observe the Milky Way, Saturn, the Andromeda Galaxy, star clusters, and numerous other deep sky objects. We are thrilled to share this extraordinary experience with you!
