Centre for Sustainable Research Extraction Seminars"DEScycle and Deep Eutectic Solvents: Rethinking metallurgy for the 21st century"
Dr Philip Bird and Dr Rob Harris, DEScycle
Friday 24 May 2024, 3.00 - 5.00pm, Bennett, Lecture Theatre 5
All welcome - talks will be suitable to a non-specialist science audience.
Our May CSRE seminar will be brought to us by the DEScycle team giving an overview of the science behind the project and the challenges of commercialising intellectual property developed at the University of Leicester to process minerals and recycle metals with more sustainable environmentally benign Deep Eutectic Solvents. This isn’t just a story about minerals or chemistry, but also journey of business development.
Speakers:
Dr Philip Bird (DEScycle -Senior Science Officer) will present Deep Eutectic Solvents: Rethinking metallurgy for the 21st century, examining the modern paradigm of metal production and introducing deep eutectic solvents and their possible applications.
Dr Rob Harris (DEScycle – Chief technology Officer) will follow with Deep Eutectic Solvents from discovery to commercialisation: The business of realising the potential of a good idea, examining the challenging journey of taking a technology out of the laboratory and building a business to achieve commercial deployment.
We are hoping that some of the London-based DEScycle team will also be able to attend.
