FEATURED GUEST - DEREK HARVEY, Colonel, USA (Retired), an internationally recognized analyst and global policy advisor. Harvey brings over 30 years of experience working security, terrorism, economic, religious and political issues. A top Advisor to four Multi-National Forces-Iraq and Multi-National Corps-Iraq Commanders, he worked on Capitol Hill as the Director for Investigations and Senior Advisor to the House Permanent Select Intelligence Committee and in the White House National Security Council under President Trump.
In Congress, he regularly briefed the Republican Caucus on worldwide intelligence developments, conducted oversight and led investigations. Harvey led multiple investigations into Chinese influence operations, espionage and criminal activities threatening America’s economic well-being and security; and authored House Committee reports on Covid-19, Chinese military/high tech developments, and efforts to co-opt the U.S. financial sector.
During his time in the National Security Council, he led interagency policy formulation to advance Middle East Peace, coordinated the response to the Qatar-Saudi dispute, advanced the recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli Capital, and shaped policy for the withdrawal from the Iran Nuclear Deal.
He spent significant time in the Middle East as a Middle East Foreign Area Officer, working policy and intelligence issues, shaping strategy, providing assessments and policy advice. Harvey later directed the Afghanistan-Pakistan Center of Excellence and re-shaped intelligence analysis, from policy to the tactical levels, for the contemporary challenges of modern conflict. As a scholar, Harvey warned about the rise of the Islamic State in early 2013 and has tracked the individuals and groups involved in the Jihadist movement for years.
Harvey has been an adjunct professor for the University of Maryland, Central Texas College, and a Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University. As a professor and the Director of the Global Initiative for Civil Society and Conflict at the University of South Florida, he focused on developing knowledge and insights in a socio-cultural-political context to inform smarter decision-making.
In addition to speaking at the Council of Foreign Relations, Council of American Ambassadors, World Affairs Council and Senate Armed Services Committee, Harvey has given the keynote address at Universities, Veterans groups, civic organizations, and conferences worldwide. He is a regular guest on tv, radio, podcast news and print articles.
