Deptford Dub Club: Neville King Meets RaSamurai

This promises to be a really historic occasion, as it features the great Neville King on the wheels of steel. The renowned producer and Soundsystem operator was born in St James, Jamaica. Neville’s Soundsystem had long residencies in Brixton, Tooting, Peckham and Streatham during the 1970s. During those times he was a mentor to David Rodigan, Levi Roots and Blacker Dread.
Neville King launched his own labels in London in 1976 and quickly struck gold. He issued exceptional roots material by Prince Lincoln and the Royal Rasses and Jacob Miller. Neville also released his own lover’s rock productions. His works, on the King and City label, by local heroes One Blood are particularly sought after; “Be Thankful” having assumed classic status. A great friend of the D.D.C., Mr. King’s work holds a special place for us.
For this session, we’re thrilled that our resident saxophonist Natty P. will be breaking out and focusing on his own, self penned material under his stage name RaSamurai. Also featured will be Tombone, our regular trombonist; they’ll be playing us out. Future headliners in the making. In addition to our guest star, all of the usual D.D.C. massive will be along for this one.
The evening will commence with a warm up selection from Club resident Mr.Wax. We’re also delighted that Waxy’ll be succeeded by Natty Nick. He’ll be familiar to anybody that has frequented Deptford Dub Club as he is a real stalwart. The vibrant Nick exudes positive vibes and can be relied upon for a scintillating set, presented with style. Expect Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae revive.

After him, the mighty Soft Wax will be spinning again, on the wheels of steel, with a fresh selection. He’ll joined by the great Doc Murdoch, our resident Singjay, live and direct. Plus our resident engineer, the inimitable Prince Fatty, will be mixing live on the desk throughout the evening, ensuring a full and rich sound from the full rig.
Rocksteady will be playing throughout the early evening, in the glorious garden, at The Fox. We'll be stoking up the mighty set inside from 6.30 ( this will be piped out into the garden too.) Put on your dancing shoes and come on down.
It's free until 7 and £5 thereafter, or £3 in advance
