About this Event

Documenting Denver Camp II Dates July 17 -20 & 24-27 : Human & Civil Rights Expressions from the Community

Camps are four days a week Monday through Thursday. Ages 5-7 attend from 9am-noon. Ages 8-12 attend from 1-4pm. For two consecutive weeks.

In this Documentary Story & Media is Lit Camp I. Younger students aged 5-7 and older ones 8-12 will have an immersive, hands on experience learning about our subjects and then using cameras, audio recorders, still images and art, they will interview, document and express the stories of human & civil rights journalists, civil attorneys and others.

Camps are taught by award-winning social justice earning filmmaker and long time young student educator Wade Gardner (From 2008 - 2020 he owned & taught art at Artful Journey School of Art). Upon having to close his art teaching studio due to the pandemic. In 2022 he founded the Denver Documentary Society and is thrilled to get back to teaching ages "five to tweens." He wants parents to know that his approach is to lead, teach and engage attendees with a master's level of wonderment and accomplishment. That he enjoys sharing.

Inquisitive Documentarians aged 5-7: Will "pair-up" to become photojournalists and "CPR-type" reporters or podcasters. They will edit and incorporate music, art and other media into their projects about Human & Civil Rights Expressions from the Community .

Inquisitive Documentarians aged 8-12: Will “pair-up” to become independent documentary filmmakers who create a short film around Human & Civil Rights Expressions from the Community . Our filmmakers will learn techniques in videotaping, lighting, sound and editing as each pair produce a short film on our topic.
