Having grown up in New Orleans, Dennis Elmer's piano and vocal style is influenced by legendary New Orleans artists such as Fats Domino, The Meters, Pete Fountain, Louis Armstrong, and Irma Thomas. As a young musician he played the country club circuit around NOLA beginning in his high school years.
At that time in New Orleans, "country and western" music was shunned. However, the Urban Cowboy movement of the 1980s changed the perception of country in this jazz and rock and roll town. Dennis went to work as an advertising executive at the first Country music format radio station in New Orleans, WSHO.
Balancing music with a challenging career in the radio industry, and later as a headhunter (executive recruiter), Dennis maintained his connection with music by playing in Nashville swing bands including The Usual Suspects, The Moonlighters, and Five Points Swing.
As a solo artist today, Dennis melds the sounds of a piano bar entertainer with the beat of rock and roll. He adopted the moniker "Elmer's Tunes" in 2020. The name is a play on the Glenn Miller orchestra's famous 1940 recording of "Elmer's Tune" and Dennis' middle name, Elmer.
