About this Event

In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, join TurnAround, Inc. as we host our second annual Denim Day event. The Denim Day story begins in Italy in the 1990’s when a driving instructor was prosecuted for raping his 18-year-old student. He later successfully appealed the conviction, claiming that because the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped him remove them. Enraged by the verdict, the women of the Italian Parliament launched a protest wearing jeans on the steps of the Supreme Court. Their demonstration of solidarity was picked up by international media which inspired the globally recognized Denim Day we observe each year.

TurnAround’s Denim Day resource fair will highlight local, survivor-centered organizations and provide therapeutic activities such as art, yoga, meditation and more! Wear your favorite denim to put your support of survivors on full display and take a stand against victim blaming.

Also, grab free treats and take home plenty of giveaways! Help spread awareness about ways to end sexual violence in your community and support Baltimore City and Baltimore County’s designated rape crisis center as we celebrate 45 years of educating, advocating, and empowering all people impacted by intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking.
