This audiovisual documentary explores the complexities of the Latino immigrant experience in New York City. By juxtaposing assumptions with lived reality, the project seeks to educate decision-makers, challenge stereotypes, and highlight the diversity within the Latino community.Through a series of interviews, we amplify voices that reveal the nuanced connections between identity, voting behavior, and social challenges—encouraging policymakers and progressives to engage with this community in meaningful, informed ways. Our hope is to break apart monolithic narratives that stigmatize immigrants and to illuminate what they actually need to thrive in this country.
Demystifying the Immigrant Experience in NYC was made possible by a DCA Art Fund Grant from Staten Island Arts, with public support from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
Special thanks to La Colmena for hosting this screening, and to all the interviewees for generously sharing their stories.
