[English below] Demonstratie: Indigenous Liberation Day 2021
Demonstratie is georganiseerd in het kader van 12 oktober, de dag dat Columbus in 1492 Abya Yala/ t Amerikaanse continent binnenviel, een dag die we niet meer gaan vieren maar omdopen tot een dag waar we stilstaan bij Inheemse strijd en toewerken naar Indigenous Liberation.
Door de eeuwenlange kolonisatie is genocide, ecocide en onderdrukking van Inheemse volkeren nog altijd het karakter van moderne natiestaten en het koloniaal kapitalisme. Hierdoor wordt het recht op zelfbeschikking, identiteit en cultuur van Inheemse groepen nog altijd geschonden. Inheemse natuurbeschermers worden ontheemd en vermoord; rivieren en milieu worden vervuild; en land onteigend voor winst van grote multinationals. Het gevolg van deze eeuwen lange kolonisatie is een globale klimaatcrisis. Hierbij wordt vaak weggelaten dat 80% van de huidige biodiversiteit wordt beschermt door Inheemse volkeren op hun grondgebieden. Daarom is het belangrijk dat Inheemse stemmen worden gehoord bij alle klimaattoppen en milieubewegingen. Daarnaast is het tijd voor erkenning vanuit de politiek, gemeente en overheid van het bestaan van Inheemse volkeren en diaspora in Nederland. Het is tijd dat er excuses en herstel komt voor de misdaden tegen Inheemse Volkeren.
Kom ook demonstreren en wees solidair, het is tijd voor dekolonisatie en herstel. Tijdens deze demonstratie zal er ook een Internationale delegatie van de Zapatistas aanwezig zijn. Het doel is om te komen tot meer erkenning voor Inheemse stemmen voor de gemeenteraadsverkiezingen in 2022, de COP26 Klimaattop en bredere klimaatbeweging.

ACHTERGROND 12 OKTOBER
Op 12 oktober 1492 arriveerde Cristobal Columbus op Turtle Island (e.a. De ‘VS’), waarbij kolonisten en veroveraars van Europese komaf voor het eerst in contact kwamen met Inheemse
gemeenschappen daar. Een datum die voor Inheemse volkeren wereldwijd het symbolische begin markeert van catastrofe: een meedogenloze kolonisatie dat al meer
dan 500 jaar duurt. Het begin van de genocide, roof,
onderdrukking en het begin van kolonisatie. Daarom is het belangrijk om die dag niet te vieren maar stil te staan bij de de strijd die nog gevoerd moet worden voor dekolonisatie en herstel. Dit is de aanleiding om jaarlijks de krachten te bundelen en een ander verhaal neer te zetten dan het nationalisme die kolonisten afschildert als helden.
CORONA MAATREGELEN:
- Houd zoveel mogelijk rekening met 1,5 meter afstand tot elkaar.
- Volg instructies van ordedienst
- Bij symptomen / verkoudheidsklachten gelieve thuis blijven.
EXTRA/optioneel:
we zullen een altaar maken ter nagedachtenis van alle mensen die sinds 1492 tot en met nu zijn vermoord en of zich hebben ingezet voor de vrijheid en waardigheid van Inheemse Volkeren. Je kan hiervoor een plantje in pot meenemen en achterlaten bij het altaar bij de opening/aanvang en inloop. Na afloop is het idee dat je weer een plant meeneemt van iemand anders. Op deze manier geef je middels het plantje je eigen intentie door om voor elkaar te zorgen en je in te blijven zetten voor de vrijheid van planten, dieren, mensen en al het leven op aarde en wat is. LET op: wees op tijd als je een plantje wil neerleggen zodat we dat gestructureerd en met afstanden kunnen doen

Daarnaast wordt de demonstratie ondersteund door verschillende klimaat en jongeren organisaties.

*We gebruiken de term “Inheems” niet als duiding of vervanging van een culturele identiteit van de verschillende volkeren en/of stammen. Dit omdat deze hun eigen taal, naam en identiteit hebben in allerlei variaties. Het woord Inheems wordt hier gebruikt als politieke identiteit om de gemeenschappelijke vormen van onderdrukking, landonteigening en genocide te duiden die de diverse Inheemse volkeren wereldwijd hebben meegemaakt door kolonialisme. Dit met als doel om te verenigen zodat we kunnen opkomen voor hun rechten en positie zoals oa is opgenomen in het VN verdrag voor de rechten van Inheemse volkeren. De volkeren, stammen en/of naties dienen bij duiding van hun culturele identiteit bij hun eigen naam genoemd te worden en niet de koloniale term "Inheems".

Demonstration: Indigenous Liberation Day 2021
Towards a recognition of Indigenous voices for the 2022 Dutch municipal elections, the COP26 climate change summit, and the broader climate movement. Together we will put an end to the celebration of colonialism and colonial figures such as Columbus.
Due to centuries of colonization, genocide, ecocide and widespread oppression of Indigenous peoples, modern nation states continue to be characterised by colonial capitalism. Thus, the right to self-determination, identity and culture of Indigenous groups continue to be violated as a result. Indigenous protectors of nature are displaced and killed; rivers and the environment are polluted; and land expropriated for the benefit of large multinationals. This centuries-long project of colonization has landed us in a global climate crisis. The fact that 80% of the world’s current biodiversity is protected by Indigenous peoples on their territories is often ignored. That is why it is crucial that Indigenous voices are heard at all climate summits and within each environmental movement. In addition, it is time for political, municipal and government recognition of the existence of Indigenous peoples and diaspora in the Netherlands. Now is the time for meaningful apologies to be offered, and for the process of reparations for the crimes against Indigenous Peoples to begin.
Come demonstrate, and practice your solidarity. It is time for decolonization and reparations. An International delegation of the Zapatistas will also be present during this demonstration.

BACKGROUND 12 OCTOBER
On the 12th of October, 1492, Cristobal Columbus arrived on Turtle Island (read: the so-called "US"), where colonial settlers and conquerors of European descent first came into contact with the Indigenous communities of those lands. This date marks the symbolic beginning of catastrophe for Indigenous peoples worldwide: a period of relentless colonization for more than 500 years. The beginning of genocide, robbery, oppression and the beginning of colonization. That is why it is important not to celebrate this day, but to reflect instead on the continuing struggle for decolonization and recovery. This is the reason to join forces each year and to tell a different narrative, one that moves away from the nationalist narrative that portrays colonialists as heroes.
CORONA MEASURES:
- Take into account keeping 1,5 m distance from one another as much as possible.
- Follow instructions from crowd control.
- In the case of COVID/cold-like symptoms, please stay at home.
EXTRA/optional:
We will make an altar in memory of all the people who have been murdered since 1492 until now, and for those who have fought for the freedom and dignity of Indigenous Peoples. You are invited to bring a potted plant to leave at the altar at the opening. The idea is that, after the demonstration, you will take home someone else’s plant. In this way, through the plant, you pass on your own intention to take care of each other, and to continue to work for the freedom of plants, animals, people and all life on earth. Please note: be on time if you want to put down a plant so that we can do this in a structured manner whilst keeping our distance.

The manifestation is organized in the context of the Century of Indigenous Liberation in collaboration with Aralez, Free West Papua Campaign NL, MABIKAs Foundation NL, Sinchi Foundation, Indigenous Movement, Wasjikwa, Building the Baileo, GHRD Amazone, Kuryzara, and The American Holocaust. In addition, the demonstration is supported by various climate and youth organizations.

*We do not use the term “Indigenous” to denote or replace cultural identities of the many different peoples and/or tribes. This is because each has their own language, name and identity in all kinds of variations. The word Indigenous is used here as a political identity to indicate the common forms of oppression, land expropriation and genocide that the various Indigenous peoples worldwide have experienced through colonialism. The underlying aim here is to unite, so that we can stand up for the rights and societal position of Indigenous people as included in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. When interpreting their cultural identity, the people, tribes and/or nations should be referred to by their own name and not the colonial term "Indigenous".
