Paragka presentsDEMOLITION: An exhibition with
Kurws + MIZI + Mpritzolitses + Tzitzifriki[a] live.
With the focus on collecting and sharing artistic material, in hope to keep interacting and connecting, neither alienate nor restrict, thus familiarise with and embrace each other, Paragka invited artists in December 2020 to create video artworks on the theme of “familiarisation”. These 18 works, initially presented online, will be showcased in a group exhibition in hope to demolish our distance and meet once again.
Participating artists : Aliki Liki, Amaryllis Zachariadou, Ania Vouloudi, Dimitris Dasios Maltezos, Dog Mother, Doris Hardeman, Fiona Beveridge, Guillermo Collado Wilkins, Jakob Jautz, Konstantinos Mouchtaridis, qwfwq + silentgroundsman, Molly Haviland, Sxoini Maxairi Marmaro, Tugba Varol and Zinon Kalfas.
Kurws (PL) have been playing constantly for fourteen years, and they have given several hundred concerts in Europe and Asia. They act as an open workshop, where improvisations intermingle with compositions. By means of repetitions, recombinations, variations and contrasts, they play with remembering and expectations. Post punk, krautrock, rock in opposition, funk, no wave - ways of playing, motives, riffs, which we heard more than once here, are dissected from their original environments and used in a new way.

ΜΙΖΙ – The Augmented Turntable is a hybrid system consisting of a turntable and a Max / MSP patch. In the postmodern digital prism, the usability of the turntable is turned upside down and the object is transformed from an obsolete collector's item into an improviser's tool. Using second-hand records that I have found in bazaars and junk shops, the plastic remnants of the last century are transformed into sound colors, rhythms and noises.

Tzitzifriki[a] follow and record sounds from their everyday life, and mash them into electronic and/or percussive environments. These electronic elements most of the times take the form of rhythmical structures which give foundation for guitar, vocals and drums, or become more ambient sonic landscapes. All these interact and connect with texts, sounds and a personal visual archive [a] which also derives from documentations of our everyday surroundings. In some shows, both music and videos/images/texts are assembled live, creating a unified audio-visual set.

ΚΑΤΕΔΑΦΙΣΗ: Μία έκθεση με τους
Kurws + MIZI + Μπριτζολίτσες + Τζιτζιφρίκι[α] live.
Με επίκεντρο τη συλλογή και το μοίρασμα καλλιτεχνικού υλικού, ελπίζοντας στην αλληλεπίδραση και τη σύνδεση, αντίθετα στην αλλοτρίωση και τον περιορισμό, σε μία προσπάθεια να εξοικειωθούμε και να αγκαλιαστούμε , η Παράγκα κάλεσε καλλιτέχνες τον Δεκέμβριο του 2020 να δημιουργήσουν βίντεο έργα με θέμα την «εξοικείωση». Αυτά τα δεκαοχτώ έργα, που αρχικά δημοσιεύτηκαν διαδικτυακά, θα παρουσιαστούν σε μια ομαδική έκθεση με ελπίδα να γκρεμίσουμε την απόσταση μας και να συναντηθούμε ξανά.

Οι Kurws (PL) παίζουν συνεχώς εδώ και δεκατέσσερα χρόνια και έχουν δώσει αρκετές εκατοντάδες συναυλίες στην Ευρώπη και την Ασία. Λειτουργούν ως ανοιχτό εργαστήριο, όπου οι αυτοσχεδιασμοί συνδυάζονται με συνθέσεις. Μέσω επαναλήψεων, ανασυνδυασμών, παραλλαγών και αντιθέσεων, παίζουν με τη μνήμη και τις προσδοκίες. Post punk, krautrock, rock σε αντίθεση, funk, no wave, μοτίβα, riff, που ακούσαμε πολλές φορές εδώ, αποκόπτονται από το αρχικό τους περιβάλλον και χρησιμοποιούνται με νέο τρόπο.

ΜΙΖΙ – The Augmented Turntable πρόκειται για ένα υβριδικό σύστημα αποτελούμενο από ένα πικάπ και ένα patch Max/MSP. Υπό το σύγχρονο μεταψηφιακό πρίσμα η χρηστικότητα του πικάπ μεταστρέφεται και το αντικείμενο μετατρέπεται από ένα έκπτωτο συλλεκτικό μέσο σε ένα όργανο αυτοσχεδιασμού. Κάνοντας χρήση μεταχειρισμένων δίσκων που έχω βρει σε παζάρια και παλιατζίδικα τα πλαστικά υπολείμματα του προηγούμενου αιώνα μετατρέπονται σε ηχοχρώματα, ρυθμούς και θορύβους.

Τα Τζιτζιφρίκι[α] ακολουθούν και ηχογραφούν ήχους από την καθημερινότητά τους και τους πολτοποιούν σε ηλεκτρονικά μουσικά περιβάλλοντα. Αυτά τα στοιχεία, τις περισσότερες φορές παίρνουν τη μορφή ρυθμικών δομών που δίνουν βάση για κιθάρα, φωνητικά και ντραμς, ενώ άλλοτε γίνονται πιο ανοιχτά ηχητικά τοπία. Όλα αυτά αλληλεπιδρούν και συνδέονται με κείμενα, ήχους και ένα προσωπικό οπτικό αρχείο [α] το οποίο επίσης προέρχεται από καταγραφές του καθημερινού μας περιβάλλοντος. Σε ορισμένες συναυλίες, τόσο η μουσική όσο και βίντεο/εικόνες/κείμενα αλληλεπιδρούν ζωντανά, δημιουργώντας μία ενοποιημένη οπτικοακουστική συνθήκη.
