Porijeklo sukoba u DR Kongu proizlazi izravno iz naslijeđa brutalne belgijske kolonijalne vladavine, pogoršane i nastavljene neokolonijalnim iskorištavanjem bogatih kongoanskih resursa i složenim uplitanjem regionalnih i međunarodnih aktera.

𝘿𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙘𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙍𝙚𝙥𝙪𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙘 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙤 – 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙥 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙙𝙙𝙚𝙣 𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙙𝙚
Dear all, we are pleased to invite you to the fourth encounter of our 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙎𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨 series, where we come together to explore urgent and emergent questions of freedom, justice and resistance. Our upcoming session, 𝘿𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙘𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙍𝙚𝙥𝙪𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙘 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙤 – 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙥 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙙𝙙𝙚𝙣 𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙙𝙚 will take place on 𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐚𝐭 𝟔 𝐏𝐌 𝐚𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐌𝐚 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛.
One focus of our Friday discussion will be the genocide in the east of Congo hidden from populations across the world. Just it’s most recent escalation, the worse in the last decade, has brought forward a rapidly growing number of massively displaced people, widespread human rights abuses and crimes, mass rape and sexual violence, millions left without clean water, food, medical care.
The origins of the conflict in DR Congo directly stem from the legacies of brutal Belgian colonial rule, exacerbated and continued by the neocolonial exploitation of Congolese rich resources and complex interference from both regional and international actors. Particularly in the east, they are coupled with the consequences of the Rwandan genocide, itself a colonialist product. Through time, the east of Congo has been a site of a variety of proxy conflicts, and a regional and global grab of resources, of which the most dire consequences fall upon the shoulders of everyday Congolese people, who pay the most brutal of prices.
Moreover, we aim to open a space for much needed discussion on how the conflict in the east permeates the imaginary of the entire Congo – the second largest country in the African continent. We will explore how the conflict in the east reflects on other localities within Congo, both from the perspective of historic internal displacements during the previous wars in Congo, but also how life goes on elsewhere in Congo, despite the current unfolding of violence in the east.
Grounded in the lived experiences of guests arriving from different parts of DR Congo, our speakers are:
🔵 𝐆𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐚,
🔴 𝐀𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐳𝐞𝐲𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐥𝐚,
