Learn about why & how to make your vote count. Join us for an evening of food and discussion on how to renovate our voting structures.
About this Event

Did you know that Massachusetts is:

  • 21st in the country for the gap between BIPOC population and BIPOC legislative representation
  • Last (50th) in the country for competitiveness of elections
  • Last (50th) in the country for state legislature effectiveness

If you want to learn more about why and how to make your vote count, we invite you to join us for an evening of delicious food and an engaging discussion on how to renovate our voting structures.

This collaborative event will be co-hosted by GenUnity, +More Perfect Union, and More Equitable Democracy in partnership with MassVote, MA Voter Table, Partners in Democracy, Ranked Choice Boston and Union Capital.

We’ll start with food and introductions then jump into a hands-on exercise led by More Equitable Democracy to help shine a light on how voting structures impact electoral outcomes. The question will be simple: What’s for dinner?

We’ll “vote” for dinner using different voting structures to demonstrate how structure impacts outcomes. What if we used a winner-take-all method vs. ranked-choice voting vs. proportional ranked choice voting? The outcome, as you’ll see, will vary significantly.

Following this exercise, MassVote, Partners in Democracy and Ranked Choice Boston will share about the work they are doing to make local and state electoral outcomes more equitable and how you can get involved.

Join us for an engaging, hopeful evening with delicious Dominican food made by the Merengue team. Bring family and friends, and expect to leave empowered and ready for more. We hope to see you there!

About the organizers:

  • - We are facilitators, conveners, and space creators dedicated to elevating the lived expertise and leadership potential of everyday adults. We bring residents together across difference to build trust, collective knowledge, and power to drive change on the issues most impacting our communities.

  • - MassVOTE is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that seeks to increase voter participation in our state. We advocate for electoral justice for the sake of building a government truly representative of the people.

  • - +MPU is a nationwide movement to strengthen our communities and heal our country by creating meaningful connections through service and leadership. +MPU forms local chapters – called Brickyards – to bring people together through service, civics, and leadership. Led by veterans and service-minded individuals, +MPU Brickyards create events to connect people who would not otherwise meet.

  • - More Equitable Democracy is racial justice organization led by people of color. Our mission is to advance racial equity by transforming electoral systems. We work as co-creators to establish stronger bonds of democracy while empowering communities with education, research, and the tools to strategically implement long-term change.

  • - Founded by internationally-recognized democracy expert Danielle Allen, Partners In Democracy is a powerhouse organization working to drive democracy renovation nationally by working at the state level, state-by-state. Using our groundbreaking 360⁰ Standard for Healthy Democracy, we champion holistic, ambitious, and strategic agendas for change — leading to sustained progress for democracy.
