Hall opens at 7pm for members to help set up for the demonstration, membership payment and sales. Demonstration- Marcela Ferreira is a prominent Australian bonsai artist and a leading authority on using Australian native trees for bonsai, a passion that evolved after years of working with traditional exotic species.
She is the founding member of the Victorian Native Bonsai Club, established in 2013, which is the only club in Australia exclusively focusing on native species. Ferreira conducts experiments with various native plants to understand their unique growth habits and how to best apply classic bonsai principles to them. Her work aims to inspire other enthusiasts to explore the potential of native species in bonsai, considering them as rewarding as, and not much harder than, traditional exotic varieties. She has been featured on the ABC program Gardening Australia to showcase her collection.
