About this Event

Led by Equal Arts, a leading creative ageing charity in the North East of England, this 2.5 hours, half day training is for anyone interested in working with, and supporting people living with dementia.

Aimed at both creative practitioners, cultural and care setting professionals, the training will provide active learning on improving communication, facilitating sessions and making people feel validated and welcome.

The training will specifically support participants to:

• Gain an understanding of the effects of dementia

• Support a user-led approach to developing and delivering inclusive, dementia-friendly creative opportunities

• Recognise the power and importance of multi-sensory exploration and how to address all five senses in workshops

• Use creativity and improvised storytelling to aid communication

• Find time for reflection and how adapt existing artist toolkits and cultural venue approaches to meet the needs of people living with dementia
