About this Event
Community Justice Project is thrilled to present Demands: People Power in Miami, an exhibition celebrating local community organizing.
This exhibit invites visitors to consider how collective power is central to justice. Demands: People Power in Miami will highlight key moments in the past and more recent history of regular people and community organizations coming together in struggle and solidarity to make our communities stronger and more just.
What does it take to build a movement? A campaign for change?
From the student sit-ins in the 1960s while desegregating Miami-Dade County Public Schools, to local immigrant rights movements and housing justice—we invite the public to situate themselves in what it means to make demands for a more just community and what it takes to build together to enact change.
And in an interactive organizer’s office installation, we invite visitors to sit down, meet and learn.
This exhibit features artworks, photos and ephemera from community organizations WeCount!, Power U Center for Social Change, Family Action Network Movement, Florida Immigrant Coalition, Dream Defenders, Community Justice Project and more.
