Come explore the fascinating world of Odonata - dragonflies and damselflies! We’ll begin with an indoor discussion about the major differences between dragonflies and damselflies while learning about their basic biology, morphology, and a few of the common families. Following a 30-minute presentation, we’ll spend the rest of the program in the field attempting to catch and release some of Chinsegut’s most recognizable odonates.Stock up on some fun facts and come see for yourself why so many bug enthusiasts fall in love with odonates. From dainty dancers to brawny darners, you’re sure to find an ode that will captivate your imagination!
Time will be spent outside and in our outdoor classroom, so come prepared with walking shoes, bottled water, and sun protection. We’ll cover approximately .5 miles each direction over soft, sandy trails. This program is appropriate for ages 10-adult. A limited numbers of aerial nets and hand lenses are available for borrowing but feel free to bring to bring your own along.
