Del Scott Miller has been part of the Barnsley and Sheffield music scene for a couple of decades, and yet somehow he's never played at The Lantern. This oversight will now be corrected!Across his work in bands such as Mynas, many collaboration projects, and solo work, Del has demonstrated a focus in his songwriting, a depth in his lyric, and a heart in his playing that stands alongside the best this nation has produced. He brings songs of family, of work class struggle, of life on the street and down the pit, speaking from the past to the present and looking to the future.
He's a nice chap as well.
We're looking forward to welcoming him to The Lantern's stage.
The evening will be opening with an intimate set from Ant Clifford's Lofter.
Del Scott Miller
Del Scott Miller is an alt. folk songwriter, guitarist, composer and poet from Barnsley. Drawing on diverse influences including Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen, Billy Bragg and Elliott Smith, Del’s catalogue presents subjects like love, loss and the underdog filtered through the gentle cynicism and wry resignation of his native Yorkshire.
In his 20+ years as a songwriter and performer Del has, as a solo artist and previously with his band Mynas, written and released 6 albums among many more singles/EPs. During this time he has supported Martin Simpson and Newton Falkner, as well as members of The Smiths, The Stranglers and The Libertines, and in 2015 he performed at the O2 arena as a finalist in the Open Mic UK competition. While his focus has always been on his own music, his classical training and background in jazz have facilitated him becoming a respected session guitarist, arranger and teacher. Outside of music he occasionally writes freelance for various music blogs and websites.
Recently, his interest in orchestral and film music led to him to study formally at Leeds Conservatoire where, having produced a substantial portfolio of songs and compositions across a wide range of genres and aesthetics, he earned an MA with distinction and received the Vice Principal’s Award for the highest mark in his cohort. His latest project, the four track EP ‘How the Night Gets In’ is now available.

Lofter
Experimenting with music boxes and loop pedals, Ant Clifford has been writing music under the name Lofter for many years. He is no stranger to The Lantern, and it's fabulous to be welcoming him back as he plays a collection of his songs, ranging from the most delicate to the catchiest.
