GETTING STARTED
The focus for 34 Grand is DEKA Zones 3 & 4, and like all events and challenges we provide at DEKA, this challenge is for ALL levels of fitness. It will test your balance, coordination, mobility, and full body strength, and strength endurance.
Equipment required – 24’ box & 14lb & 20lb med ball
*10b med ball required for females ages 65+ and Youth (10-13) teams
4 person teams – male, female, co-ed, and youth (10-13 divisions)
HOW IT WORKS
Duration: 15 minutes
The Challenge:
Timer starts & Round 1 begins (do not stop timer until the end of the challenge – 15:00 minutes).
Round 1 – 2 team members start on Zone 3 & the other 2 team members start on Zone 4. Each team member completes 15sec of work (one team member works at a time on each zone). Round 1 ends when timer reaches 30sec.
Round 2 – the work time increases to 30sec for each team member. Round 2 ends when the timer reaches 1:30 .
Round 3 – the work time increases to 60sec for each team member. Round 3 ends when the timer reaches 3:30.
Round 4 – the work time increases to 120sec for each team member. Round 4 ends when the timer reaches 7:30.
At the end of round 4, the 4 person team (2 teams of 2) swap zones.
Round 5 – the work stays at 120sec for each team member. Round 5 ends when the timer reaches 11:30.
Round 6 – the work decreases down to 60sec for each team member. Round 6 ends when the timer reaches 13:30.
Round 7 – the work decreases down to 30sec for each team member. Round 7 ends when the timer reaches 14:30.
Round 8 – the work decreases down to 15sec for each team member. Round 8 and the challenge ends when the timer reaches 15:00.
Scoring:
The total number of reps completed in 15 minutes is the team’s score.
RULES
Rules as outlined in the DEKA Rulebook and the DEKA movement standards video for Zones 3 & 4 must be followed
The challenge must be completed at a DEKA Affiliate location or at a location where a DEKA Affiliate is hosting the challenge.
Competitors DO NOT have to be a member of the DEKA Affiliate location.
Only one box per team can be used for DEKA Zone 3 work and only one mat per team be used for DEKA Zone 4 work. For male and female teams, only one med ball can be used. For co-ed teams one male and one female med ball can be used.
Judging:
A master timer can be used for one or multiple teams that are going at the same time and one judge can voice the “switch” call or an interval timer that beeps at switch points can be used. For counting and documenting reps there are two options. You can have two judges counting reps or the team members can count their own reps and document the number during each rest period.
When the “switch” call is heard only the last completed rep shall be counted. *Do not count a rep that’s in the process of being completed.
