In this session, Dr Henna Bains will share her experiences of an early career engineer, the move from academia to industry, and the journey of transforming university research into a commercial product for continued impact. Henna will give her perspective on what worked, what did not, and how her past research and experience in the Energy CDT prepared her. The session will also discuss Kinewell Energy’s software solutions to support offshore wind planning, as well as outlining some thoughts for the future, as we transition to a net-zero society.
Dr Henna Bains is a Senior Engineer at Kinewell Energy - a UK-based, worldwide company offering state-of-the-art infrastructure optimisation solutions that support our global transition to a net-zero society. Henna conducts R&D activities, including developing Kinewell’s KLOC inter-array cable software to include new innovative features and creating a new-to-market export system technology choice product. She also delivers inter-array cable consultancy projects. Before joining Kinewell Energy, Henna obtained a PhD titled ‘Offshore transmission system planning under severe uncertainty’ from Durham University, as well as worked as a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Engineering. Henna is an Associate Fellow of the DEI.
