“Defining Ourselves” in the Early Middle Ages
Hosted by the International Anchoritic Society & the Early Middle English Society
18–21 September 2025 | Brandeis University, Boston, MA (Hybrid Event)
Join scholars from around the world for an interdisciplinary exploration of identity, boundaries, and cultural intersections in the early Middle Ages. This hybrid conference—featuring keynote addresses by Liz Herbert McAvoy, Michelle M. Sauer, and Adrienne Williams Boyarin—will examine themes of periodization, religious and secular literatures, linguistics, and more, with a focus on how medieval communities (and modern scholars) “define themselves.”
Highlights:
- Banquet at Peppino’s: An evening of camaraderie and conversation (ticketed separately).
- Sunday Excursion to Salem, MA: Visit the House of the Seven Gables and the Salem Witch Museum (ticketed separately)
- Screening of Caroline Golum’s new film, Revelations of Divine Love: Prayer and Process (ticketed separately-for those only attending for the screening, choose the "Saturday only" registration option)
