A critical vote is coming to Green Bay City Council on Monday, November 17 at 6:00 PM
📍 City Hall, 100 N Jefferson St, Room 604
The Equal Rights Commission just voted to recommend major new restrictions on short-term rentals — limiting them to a 7-night minimum and no more than 180 consecutive rental days per year.
This recommendation will now go to the City Council on Nov 11, and the final will take place the following Monday, November 17th. If passed, these limits would cut local income, eliminate cleaning and maintenance work, and DRAIN MILLIONS OF DOLLARS from Green Bay’s economy (data provided below).
💬 WHY THIS MATTERS
Short-term rentals are more than just Airbnbs — they’re a network of local jobs:
cleaning crews, maintenance companies, landscapers, plumbers, handymen, small shops, and restaurants.
Making rentals a 7-night minimum will cut the majority of stays.
The average Airbnb stay in the U.S. is 3–4 nights, meaning most guests simply won’t come — and all that local spending will disappear.

📊 THE REAL NUMBERS
🧹 Each short-term rental listing supports a minimum of $15,000–$18,000 per year in cleaning, maintenance, and repair income for local workers.
Scaled across roughly 400 licensed short-term rentals in Green Bay, that’s $6–$7 million every year going directly to local cleaners, handymen, and tradespeople.

🏡 Owners of short-term rentals regularly renovate and improve properties, increasing home values and property-tax revenue for the city and surrounding neighborhoods.
📈 There are more than 45,000 homes in Green Bay and only ~400 short-term rental permits — that’s less than 1% of the housing supply.
Even removing every STR wouldn’t make a dent in housing affordability, but it would wipe out millions in local income.
