About this Event
Join the Greater Ridgewood Historical Society and the family of Helen Ries as we gather to celebrate the remarkable life and legacy of Helen Ries with the dedication of the John R. Ries & Helen Ries Memorial Picnic Grove at the historic Vander Ende–Onderdonk House Museum.
The dedication ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at 12:00 noon.
Originally dedicated in 1992 to honor the vital contributions of John R. Ries during the formative years of the Greater Ridgewood Historical Society, the picnic grove now will also bear the name of Helen Ries, in recognition of her unwavering dedication to the Society and the community. Following John’s passing in 1991, Helen carried forward their shared commitment, playing a leading role in many public programs including the beloved School Program, Harvest Festival, and St. Nicholas Day celebrations.
A true advocate for the preservation of local history and community spirit, Helen was also deeply involved with the Friends of the Ridgewood Library, the American Legion, and other neighborhood organizations. In 1997, she was honored with the Citizen of the Month Award for her outstanding contributions to Greater Ridgewood.
Please join us as we honor the lasting impact of both John and Helen Ries and celebrate the grove that will continue to welcome families and visitors for years to come.
