About this Event

For over a decade, the interplay of light and sound transformed ‘Light’ Neville Street, Leeds from a noise-filled and unpleasant gateway tunnel into an immersive urban landscape for its 19,000 daily users.

Embedded in the specially constructed 100-metre-long environment, A Light and Sound Transit by artist Hans Peter Kuhn engaged audiences as a ‘non-object’ based work of contemporary public sculpture with its substantial incorporation of sound as a central component.

A collaborative project team of architects, engineers and artists pioneered a radical response to this complex space of traffic: rail, road and pedestrian. Light Neville Street remains an exemplar of using public space in ways that create curiosity and engagement in the places we live and work.

Featuring an 8-channel installation of ‘A Light and Sound Transit’, the original randomised soundwork for ‘Light’ Neville Street. This work will use the high end Meyer speaker system recovered from the canopy over Neville Street and now back in use for artists and community*.
