You are invited to join us for a conversation with Rueben George to discuss his book "It Stops Here".
About this Event

CRITIQUE, the Centre for African Studies, the Centre of Canadian Studies and Lighthouse Books invite you to join us for a conversation with with Rueben George, Sundance Chief and member of the Tsleil-Waututh First Nation.

Rueben George (Tsleil-Waututh First Nation) is a prominent Indigenous land defender and Sundance Chief who spent much of the last decade fighting the Trans Mountain Pipeline, which transports crude bitumen through his nation’s territory (where Vancouver, Canada is today).

He is author of the national best-selling book It Stops Here: Standing up for Our Lands, Our Waters, and Our People (co-authored with Michael Simpson from University of St Andrews). Join us for an evening of discussion with Rueben on the themes of the sacred connection of the Tsleil-Waututh people to their lands and waters, and how they are drawing on their culture to heal and stand up to the ongoing colonization of their people by the state and extractive industries.
