Decolonizing Aid: What is the place of global feminist solidarity?

There has, in the past few years, been calls for a radical shift in how international aid and development cooperation are configured. Donors in the global North and the infrastructure surrounding them have been accused of upholding white supremacy and saviorism, mirroring past colonial relationships with decision-making power concentrated in the Global North. The panel will explore how feminist networks globally can work together to decolonize aid, while prioritizing collective care and reclaiming global sisterhood, intersectional organizing and feminist agenda setting.
Meet the Panel:
Catherine Wanjiru Nyambura is an international development expert and Pan African feminist. She has ten years' experience in advancing feminism, gender equality, youth development, and sexual and reproductive health and rights. Catherine is currently affiliated with the ATHENA Network where she is the Director of Programs focusing on feminist activism and movement building.
Amel Fahmy is the founder and director of Tadwein Gender Research Center in Egypt, which carries out advocacy-oriented research to combat Gender based violence. She has worked in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights for the past twenty years at agencies such as WHO, UNICEF and UNFPA and has co-founded feminist initiatives such as INTACT and HarassMap,
Mette Müller Kristensen is the director of Global Focus, which is the Danish platform for civil society organisations working globally on development, humanitarian, environmental and human rights issues. Previously, Mette has held roles such as International Director of Danish People’s Organisations Denmark (DPOD), Chairwoman of Oxfam Ibis and international programme officer at the Danish Youth Council.
Moderator:
Rejoice Namale is a youth and women's empowerment advocate from Malawi, Africa. With over 4 years' experience in the non-profit sector, she is passionate about Youth & Women Empowerment, promoting education and access to adequate health services for all. She is the Founder of Youth Arise Network and serves as ATHENA Networks #WhatWomenWant Malawi Focal Lead in partnership with UNAIDS.
