About this Event
Come along to our event on decolonising health care on Wednesday 30th October 2024 from 17.00 – 19.00 at the National Liberal Club, 1 Whitehall Pl, London, SW1A 2HE.
The event will focus on addressing health inequalities in the UK with a particular focus on decolonising healthcare. The event will be chaired by Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee and will feature a keynote introduction by Ivan Browne, Professor of Public Health and Social Determinants of Health at De Montfort University.
Population structures in the UK are changing rapidly and the emerging communities in many of our towns and cities require policies, institutions and service delivery mechanisms that are better tailored to respond to the differing needs accompany these changes.
In the area of health service provision, there is a growing requirement for health care professionals that both understand the increasingly complex needs of the communities they serve and be better equipped to meet these needs. Ivan will be joined by Simon Oydroyd, Pro Vice-Chancellor Sustainability and Dean of Health and Life Sciences, to discuss how De Montfort is already leading adapting its curriculum to meet this challenge.
Professor Ivan Browne was Leicester’s public health director during Covid and won the 2023 Chief Medical Officer’s National Impact Award for his work. After his introduction, Ivan will be joined by other experts for a panel debate chaired by Polly. There will also be an opportunity for you to pose questions to the panel.
The event will finish with a drinks and networking reception.
Ticket sales will close 1 hour before the event starts on each day.
